Rock Climbing in Nagano
In Hakuba, or a close distance away, there are numerous climbing options for outdoor routes and indoor climbing walls. Ogawa-yama, on the Yamanashi-Nagano border, has hundreds of multi-pitch granite climbs, with routes ranging from 5 to 12.5.

Scattered through Nagano many bolted sport climbing sections are a twenty-minute walk from the parking lot.
In our full day rock climbing program we will practice basic climbing techniques on a sports wall in the morning and then graduate to a local outdoor crag (weather permitting). Safety is our number one priority so we advance to your comfort level and set up climbing routes that will test you, but are heaps of fun to climb. As we will be outside all day, please pack a lunch and have the appropriate clothing for the day. All gear rentals are included in this price.

Multi-Day Climbing
Hakuba is truly a mountaineer’s paradise. Steep peaks rise up to over 2500m and with linked ridges climbers can access many of the local summits with relative ease. Some of the more popular climbing routes are the famous Three Peaks of Hakuba (Hakubasan-zan) and The Tateyama Alpine Route that spans across Nagano prefecture and Toyama prefecture. Next to Hakuba, the famous Kashima-Yari East Ridge is a multi-day climb into alpine country. With this type of tour we use mountain huts and occasionally tents. Prerequistes for this tour are experience in mountain climbing and your own gear, however equipment rentals are available from Evergreen. Please contact us for more details.
Wall Climbing in Hakuba
Evergreen has a climb waiting for every physical ability. We can teach lessons on indoor or outdoor walls in
the area. All equipment and transportation is included in the price.
The city of Hakuba has an outdoor climbing wall with an overhang that makes climbing possible on rainy days. Twenty minutes from Hakuba, in Omachi, there is a climbing wall with a nice variety of difficult routes and a bouldering wall.

Bouldering

If you want to climb, but aren’t quite sure about the height factor, then bouldering may be for you. Used by pro climbers to train and even a sport unto itself, bouldering is basically free climbing up small, low level (under 4m) cliffs and boulders. Evergreen has a 2m wall for honing those dynamic climbing skills or using your body on a rainy day. The wall is open from 9:30 - 16:00 for a flat fee of 750 yen. This covers insurance and first-aid should you come a cropper. Please bring good sneakers, clothes that allow ease of movement, something to drink and snacks if you need them.
